The First Kazakhstan-France Decarbonization Day Took Place in Astana

The first Kazakhstan-France Decarbonization Day, organized by the France-Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIFK) in collaboration with "NC "KAZAKH INVEST" JSC was held in Astana. The main goal of this event, which took place on June 7th at Nazarbayev University, was to identify opportunities for cooperation between companies in the field of low-carbon solutions.

The "Decarbonization Day" became the first platform for the development of cooperation between France and Kazakhstan in reducing carbon dependence. Both countries have set ambitious goals to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and 2060, respectively.

The event aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy transition and brought together representatives of the government, national companies, business leaders such as Total Energies, Eurasian Resources Group, Air Liquide, Orano, Alstom, Veolia, Bureau Veritas, as well as environmentally focused organizations including ECOJER, IGTIC, scientists, and other key participants. During the "Decarbonization Day" participants exchanged knowledge and experience and discussed opportunities for transitioning to a low-carbon economy. Industry experts also paid great attention to the potential and possibilities of Kazakhstan in reducing carbon dependence in the energy and industrial sectors.

Opening the event, Ambassador of France to Kazakhstan Didier Canesse spoke about the importance of joint work between countries to ensure the energy transition.

"The issues of energy transition are a priority for France, Kazakhstan, and all European Union countries. Green energy affects all areas of activity, ranging from protecting the environment and preserving biodiversity, forests, and water resources to a profound transformation of all sectors of the economy. Therefore, joint work, exchange of experience and technologies in this area are very important for the transition to a green economy," said the Ambassador.

Furthermore, within the framework of the "Decarbonization Day" the Kazakh Association of Green Hydrogen was officially launched, initiated by "NC "KAZAKH INVEST" JSC.

"The establishment of the Green Hydrogen Alliance in Kazakhstan was driven by the active participation of major international and local companies in hydrogen production, as well as those planning to participate in this sector. It is created with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the participants and promoting the development of environmentally friendly energy in Kazakhstan. The alliance will contribute to the exchange of knowledge, experience, and advanced technologies, as well as facilitate the creation of innovative projects in the production and use of green hydrogen. This is an important step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving sustainable development in Kazakhstan," said Dinara Issabekova, Industry Executive.

The official launch of this alliance will serve as a catalyst for further cooperation and investment. It is worth noting that the agreement on the creation of the Green Hydrogen Alliance in Kazakhstan between representatives of leading technology companies from Germany, Italy, Spain, France, and Kazakhstan was signed in 2022 on the sidelines of the First International Forum "Green Hydrogen: Kazakhstan" within the framework of the international conference Astana Finance Days-2022.
