News - The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan and the Ambassador of Switzerland Discussed the Possibilities of Strategic Cooperation in the Railway Industry

Within the framework of the meeting of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov with the Ambassador of Switzerland David Grifting, with the participation of representatives of state bodies of Kazakhstan, NC "KTZ" JSC and the heads of the Swiss company Stadler Bussnang AG, issues of strategic cooperation between the parties in the railway sector were considered.

Recall that on November 29, 2021, a number of commercial agreements in various industries were signed within the framework of the investment round table in Geneva with the participation of the Presidents of Kazakhstan and Switzerland.

During today's meeting, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov noted that despite the continuing uncertainty, there is interest both at the national and global levels in Kazakhstan's transit opportunities, demand for transport and logistics services is growing.

A. Smailov stressed that Kazakhstan's mechanical engineering is one of the most promising sectors of the national economy, and there is significant potential for expanding localization in Kazakhstan.

"In NC "KTZ" JSC, systematic work is being carried out to update the rolling stock. The wear is about 60 percent, and we should gradually update. This project is especially important to us due to localization in Kazakhstan,"  said the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.

The representatives of the Swiss side assured that they are ready to establish production of modern "made in Kazakhstan" rolling stock conforming to international quality standards, provide staff training, undertake obligations to comply with localization requirements and would like to see Kazakhstan as the main platform in the region.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov confirmed the interest of the Republic of Kazakhstan in developing strategic cooperation in the railway and other industries.
