On the 7th meeting of the Kazakh-Turkish Joint Strategic Planning Group
Nur-Sultan, February 24, 2022 - The planned 7th meeting of the Kazakh-Turkish Joint Strategic Planning Group was held under the co-chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tleuberdi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu in videoconferencing format
On the eve of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Turkey, the parties discussed the prospects for further bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian spheres, as well as measures to further expand the legal framework.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a growth trend in bilateral trade. In 2021, Turkey ranked fifth among the leading trading partners of Kazakhstan. To date, the volume of trade has reached about 4 billion US dollars, an increase of 100 times compared to 30 million dollars in 1992.
In addition, the parties reviewed the preparations for the 12th meeting of the Kazakh-Turkish intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation chaired by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan A. Smailov and Vice President of Turkey F. Oktay, which is scheduled for early March 2022 in Nur -Sultan.
At present, investment cooperation between our countries is actively developing. Turkey is one of the main investors for Kazakhstan. Over the past 30 years, about 5 billion US dollars of Turkish investments have been attracted to the economy of Kazakhstan. In turn, Kazakh businessmen invested more than 1.1 billion US dollars in the Turkish economy. Today, the investment portfolio between our countries is about 5.5 billion US dollars and includes 150 projects.
During the talks, the ministers agreed to consider promising areas of cooperation in the agribusiness and agricultural sectors. In addition, the importance of building up cooperation in the educational, cultural and humanitarian spheres was noted. To date, about 2,500 Kazakhs who graduated from Turkish universities are contributing to the development and strengthening of relations between the two countries. In turn, Turkish students in Kazakhstan, whose number continues to grow, have the opportunity to obtain high-quality knowledge and get to know the history and traditions of the fraternal Kazakh people.
