Kazakhstan and Japan Strengthen Trade and Economic Ties

Astana, August 2, 2024 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alibek Kuantyrov held a meeting with Japan's Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Jun Yamada, where they discussed trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

During the negotiations, A. Kuantyrov noted Kazakhstan's high potential for expanding investment cooperation with Japan in areas such as transport and logistics, mining and metallurgy, renewable energy, waste processing, digitalization, and infrastructure. The Deputy Minister emphasized that the Government of Kazakhstan is ready to fully support Japanese companies interested in implementing projects in Kazakhstan.

"Astana and Tokyo have established an active political dialogue, achieved a high level of economic interaction, and continue to strengthen cultural and humanitarian ties. Over 18 years, Japanese companies have invested more than $7.8 billion in Kazakhstan's economy, and we see great potential for expanding cooperation in key sectors of the economy," said A. Kuantyrov.

In turn, J. Yamada noted that Kazakhstan is a strategic partner for Japan, and recently more companies have shown interest in opening enterprises in Kazakhstan. According to him, Japanese companies can help Kazakhstan implement energy projects, develop transport potential, infrastructure, and particularly in the digitalization of the logistics process. The Japanese Ambassador emphasized that the planned opening of direct air service between the countries in 2026 will strengthen bilateral ties and expand opportunities for business and tourism.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen their strategic partnership to enhance economic cooperation.
