KAZAKH INVEST and Nexus-Europe GmbH Discuss Prospects for Establishing Pharmaceutical Production and Developing the IT Sector in Kazakhstan
Azamat Kozhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of JSC “NC “KAZAKH INVEST” held a working meeting with George Basrawi, Strategy Director of Nexus-Europe GmbH.
The discussion focused on the prospects for long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of pharmaceutical manufacturing and information technology. In particular, the parties considered the possibility of establishing a modern pharmaceutical facility in Kazakhstan with phased localization of drug production. They also discussed potential areas for joint IT initiatives, including the creation of development centers and the implementation of digital solutions. Both areas are aimed at meeting domestic market demand and enhancing export potential, with a focus on Central Asian and CIS countries.
During the meeting, Azamat Kozhanov emphasized the strategic importance of developing the pharmaceutical sector in Kazakhstan and expressed interest in attracting international technological partners:
“The Head of State has set the task of gradually increasing the share of domestically produced pharmaceuticals to 50%. In this context, we are witnessing growing interest from international pharmaceutical companies in launching production facilities in Kazakhstan. Such projects not only help meet domestic demand but also contribute to building export potential and facilitating technology transfer. A similar trend can be observed in other priority sectors — including mechanical engineering, the chemical industry, construction materials production, and information technology. We are ready to support investors at every stage — from site selection to localization and the implementation of joint R&D initiatives,” he noted.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties expressed readiness to further develop the project, including holding technical consultations and exploring localization mechanisms. KAZAKH INVEST confirmed its readiness to provide comprehensive support through a one-stop-shop approach, ensuring coordination with relevant government agencies and potential partners.
