KAZAKH INVEST Holds Panel Session on Hydrogen Industry Development within Regional Forum on Decarbonization Diplomacy
As part of the Second Regional Forum of Central Asia and Europe on Decarbonization Diplomacy, organized by the Hydrogen Diplomacy Office H-2 Diplo of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), JSC “NC KAZAKH INVEST” held a panel session titled “Unveiling the Investment Potential of the Hydrogen Industry in Kazakhstan.” The session was moderated by Issa Kudabekov, Deputy Director of the Project Department of the company.
The session aimed to discuss key issues in shaping a favorable investment environment in the hydrogen energy sector. The discussion continued the work launched during the acceleration program on improving the investment climate and identifying barriers to project implementation in the hydrogen industry, organized by the Investment Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and KAZAKH INVEST on June 20 of this year.
Participants in the discussion included representatives of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Green Spark Ltd., as well as Welt Konnect Pvt. Ltd. (Pakistan), which is considering the possibility of implementing a hydrogen project in Kazakhstan.
The discussions covered access to climate financing from international institutions and the need to ensure the “bankability” of projects, improvement of the regulatory framework, standardization and certification, signing of offtake contracts in international and regional markets, as well as further development of state policy in the field of hydrogen energy.
It should be noted that large-scale initiatives in this field are already being implemented in Kazakhstan. The first investment agreement was signed in 2022 for a green hydrogen production project in Mangystau region with the participation of Svevind Energy GmbH (Germany), with an investment volume of around USD 50 billion.
