Germany’s Industrial Regions Ready to Cooperate with Kazakhstan in Metallurgy, Construction, and Engineering

As part of the visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Alibek Kuantyrov, Chairman of the Board of JSC "NC KAZAKH INVEST" Yerzhan Yelekeyev, and Consul General of Kazakhstan in Frankfurt am Main Taubaldy Umbetbayev held a series of meetings with executives of leading German companies.

During a meeting with SHS - Stahl-Holding-Saar GmbH & Co. KGaA, the largest steelmaking company in the federal state of Saarland, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of sustainable metallurgy. The company is implementing a large-scale program to shift to low-carbon steel production using hydrogen technologies, with a total investment volume of €3.5 billion. Considering the plans to implement green solutions, the Kazakh side presented a number of potential investment projects that could be implemented with German partners in Kazakhstan.

Prospects for projects in the mining and metallurgy sector and engineering were discussed during a meeting with Becker Mining Systems AG, an international company specializing in integrated technology solutions for mines. The company expressed strong interest in localizing the production and assembly of mining and metallurgical equipment in Kazakhstan. Becker Mining already supplies equipment to the Kazakh market and announced its intention to open a subsidiary in Kazakhstan this year. The company is among the world’s leading suppliers of integrated solutions in energy, automation, communication, transport, infrastructure, and mine safety, delivering products to major international corporations.

Kalzip GmbH, part of the Donges Group and a supplier of aluminum roofing and facade systems, confirmed its interest in establishing construction materials production in Kazakhstan. Kalzip had previously supplied products for sports facilities in Astana and is now exploring participation in projects aimed at constructing energy-efficient and eco-friendly buildings across the country.

Drache Umwelttechnik GmbH, a manufacturer of high-tech foundry equipment, presented its innovative solutions for aluminum casting. Discussions included the potential deployment of the company’s equipment at Kazakh metallurgical enterprises and the export of filtration systems to the local market.

During the meetings, Alibek Kuantyrov emphasized that Kazakhstan is keen to develop projects in the mining and metallurgical complex (MMC), which is one of the key sectors of the national economy. Today, the MMC accounts for approximately 26% of the country’s total industrial output, with metallurgy representing nearly 44% of the processing industry. Kazakhstan possesses significant mineral reserves and is actively working on creating added value through deep processing of raw materials.

In this context, cooperation with leading international companies with next-generation technologies is viewed as a priority of state policy. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and KAZAKH INVEST stand ready to provide comprehensive support to investors at all stages of project implementation in this sector.
